I made a backup of the stock kernel of my nexus 7(running 4.2.2), is a .IMG so you just need flash it via ADB... Don't know how?
Download the boot image from the download link ,reboot to the bootloader and enter this command: fastboot flash boot stockkernel.img
I hope it works !! It works fine for me....... Tell me if it works for you...... And remember, if you device stop working.... Don't blame me!!
